OBS contention resolution performance

چکیده
In this paper, a performance comparison of resolution policies specific to optical burst switching is presented. A framework, based on a reduced-load approximation, is developed to estimate path blocking probabilities in an optical burst switching network of arbitrary topology, in which any combination of the following resolution policies is in place: burst deflection, burst segmentation and limited wavelength conversion. The framework is used to compare the relative

Design and Performance Analysis of OBS Network Using Hybrid Contention Resolution Technique
Optical burst switching (OBS) is a promising switching technology for realization of terabit optical network because it offers a very high bit-rate transport service that is potentially bandwidth-efficient and costeffective in terms of network infrastructure. However, the lack of optical processing capability of OBS technology results in increased blocking probability and limits the network per...
متن کاملSupporting QoS with look-ahead window contention resolution in optical burst switched networks
Optical burst switching (OBS) has been proposed as a competitive hybrid switching technology to support the nextgeneration optical Internet. This paper addresses the problem of contention in OBS networks and introduces a new contention resolution algorithm called Look-ahead window Contention Resolution (LCR) that can also support service differentiation. Simulation results show that the perform...
متن کاملPractical Priority Contention Resolution for Slotted Optical Burst Switching Networks
Optical burst switching (OBS) has been proposed as a competitive hybrid switching technology to support the nextgeneration optical Internet. This paper addresses performance issues in the slotted and unslotted OBS networks and extends a proposed contention resolution algorithm called the Shortest Drop Policy to support service differentiation. In addition, this paper presents a practical schedu...
متن کاملA flexible contention resolution scheme for QoS provisioning in optical burst switching networks
Contention resolution is a major issue in bufferless optical burst switching (OBS) networks. The existing contention resolution schemes consider priority and arrival time to resolve contention. For most multimedia applications priority and delay are key parameters for QoS provisioning. In this paper, we propose a new signaling protocol for reducing contention in OBS networks and consider three ...
متن کاملTowards Efficient Optical Burst-Switched Networks without All-Optical Wavelength Converters
Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is a promising switching paradigm to efficiently support Internet Protocol (IP) packets over optical networks, under current and foreseeable limitations of optical technology. The prospects of OBS networks would greatly benefit, in terms of cost and ease of implementation, from limiting the wavelength conversion capabilities at the network nodes. This paper present...
متن کاملImproving throughput and effective utilization in OBS networks
This paper considers two important performance measures that have not received much attention in performance studies of optical burst switching (OBS) networks. The first is the so-called effective utilization which is the proportion of link capacity used by bursts that eventually reach their destinations. The second considers the throughput of individual source-destination pairs that may indica...
